Photo Exhibit

This past semester Kayla has taken a few classes at Collin County Community College. One of the classes she took was a fundamentals of digital photography. She learned a lot of different techniques for taking photos. At the end of the semester she was asked by her professor if she would like to apply for a scholarship with the photography department. This was a great experience for Kayla to learn about the scholarship process and prepare a portfolio for others to examine. Kayla did not end up getting the scholarship but she was asked by the photography department to have one of her photos on display in a photo exhibit that they were doing at the college. What an honor! So for the months of June and July Kayla will have this picture on display at the Community College in the Art Department. I am so proud of how hard she has worked this past few month. It is a big change from working at home to working for college professors. She was able to get all "A's" this semester. She is on her way to her goal of graduating from the college in 2011 with an associates degree in Photographic Journalism. If you would like to see more of the photos that Kayla has taken this past spring you can see them at http://www.kfinphotos.blogspot.com/.

I am not old enough....

to have a daughter in college! OK, I'm not, but she is! This past week Kayla started school at Collin County Community College. Now she is only 15, but how the time is flying! She has only 6 credit hours this semester as a transition from being home for the past three years to having teachers that don't care how cute she is. Her goal at this time is to graduate with an associates degree at the same time as her friend are graduating from High School. I hope that she will be able to do it and have success.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I am the last of the Finneys to have a birthday in January. I still have two sisters that will have birthdays this month, Andrea and Mackenzie.
I had a good day, not different then most but a good day anyway. The kids decided that what they wanted to give me for my birthday was a day off of teaching school, how generous of them! I went with it, we always give the day off for the kids birthdays, so why not moms? Chloe got me a great gift that kept me laughing all day. The night before she was working on a pixo project that our neighbor had given her and was having a very hard time. I told her that I would help her with it, but she was hesitant because it was a gift for me. I told her that the next day I would act surprised. We worked on the project and had a good time.
The next morning we got up and she wrapped my present for me. When she brought me the gift bag, I was a little confused, the bag weighted much more then I thought it would. When I opened it I found a cute craft that we had done together, also another gift bag that my sister had given her and my reading book. She then told me that she had given me the book because she had seen me reading it and it looked like I liked it, so it seemed like a good book to give to me. What a wonderful birthday gift!

Another January Birthday

January 11th brings two birthdays! NaNa Sue (Jammi's mom) and Chloe. Chloe loves sharing her birthday with her NaNa. They both tell each "Happy OUR birthday!" We were able to go to my moms for a birthday celebration and see our Dallas cousins. Chloe when asked the best thing about her birthday she will tell you that now she is going to get baptized. She is so looking forward to that day. Chloe is a big personality in our family and she is always on the go. She truly looks up to her older sister and wants to do and be everything that Kayla is and does. Chloe loves school and loves to write. She is good at making up stories and has a huge imagination. Life at our house would be dull without Chloe!

Welcome Birthday Month

January is full of Argyle and Finlayson birthdays. Branden is the start. On January 2nd Branden turned 9. How the time has flown by! He was very excited about his birthday and has big plans for the new year. He said that this year he hopes to keep working hard on Cub Scouts, he has finished his wolf and begun working on his Bear. He got a skateboard for his birthday and wants to learn to be a great rider. He also looks forward to learning new things in school, he has really enjoyed reading the historical books that are included in our history program and loves to read about the early Americans. Right now his favorite is Benjamin Franklin. Branden is a delight to have in our home, he is a very thoughtful young man that always wants everyone to be treated kindly and watches to make sure things are fair. Branden we love you!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Ok, new blog, new year! I hope to do a better job of keeping up on this blog then I have done in the past. A good friend of mine gave me some good ideas for what to do and hope that will work. Our family continues to grow up, much faster then their mom would like. Kayla has a drivers permit, Andy goes to YM's and Chloe will be baptized next month. Check back often to see what we are doing and I look forward to reading and seeing what all our friends are doing.
